I’m Rachel Rawlins, an integrative counsellor and psychotherapist based in north west London working with adults both in person and online via Zoom.
The relationship between client and counsellor is a central element of therapy and I aspire to hold a warm, safe, confidential, non-judgemental, and compassionate space in which trust and respect can be cultivated. This gives the opportunity for you to be heard with deep attention and care, and together we may gently explore difficult thoughts, emotions, and challenges with sensitivity.
An early career in international media gave me the privilege of frequently living and working abroad experiencing different cultures and societies. It also gave me insight into, and experience of, the challenges of a stressful and demanding job. This can result in various sources of distress including anxiety, burn-out, creative block, substance misuse, depression, overwhelm, and low self-confidence as well as exposure to events leading to trauma.
Working in the funeral industry has given me a particular insight into the profound pain and complexity of loss, bereavement, and grief. The suffering of separation and change isn’t confined only to death. That which is mourned could also be the loss of a relationship, an anticipated future, a job, health, a sense of self, unrealised dreams. Each experience is unique, as is each response. When things are tangled it can help to explore the expected and the unexpected, the open and the hidden, in a safe, neutral space of deep compassion.
